Douglas Smallwood, Chief Executive of Diabetes UK, joined the organisation in September 2004, his former roles having included being Managing Director of Corporate Banking at HBOS and, prior to that, a Chief Executive in the Housing Association sector.
Douglas believes that Diabetes UK has a vital role to play in reaching and representing all people with diabetes and helping them live well with their diabetes.
Douglas is also a Co-Chair of the Long Term Conditions Programme Board of East of England Strategic Health Authority, and a Trustee of National Voices, the umbrella organisation that brings together the voices of users of health and social care services through voluntary organisations.
