UK Advisory Council (UKAC)

The role of the UKAC is to:

  • Ensure that the Board of Trustees is aware of the views of a wide range of people living with diabetes, healthcare professionals and other stakeholders.
  • Elect and hold to account the Board of Trustees.
  • Inspire and motivate members, supporters, staff and others to renewed efforts to improve the lives of people with diabetes and work towards a future without diabetes.
  • Act as legal members of the charitable company.

Following the Governance Review 2007, the structure of the UKAC will change.  Currently, the UKAC consists of over 100 members, divided according to stakeholder group (lay, professional and voluntary groups) and nation.  From September 2008, the UKAC will consist of 50 members, both healthcare professionals and people living with diabetes, from all four nations of the UK.  The UKAC will be divided into the Council of Healthcare Professionals (CHP) and the Council of People Living with Diabetes (CPD).  The UKAC will be supported by national advisory councils and expert working groups.
