Diabetes UK recommends that for children and young people with Type 2 diabetes, the guidance published by the International Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Diabetes (ISPAD) should be followed for diagnosis and treatment.
However, it is noted that ISPAD recommend the cut-off for fasting plasma glucose is 5.6mmols/l rather than 6.1mmols/l as recommended by the World Health Organization. Diabetes UK considers that the World Health Organization’s cut off of 6.1mmols/l should be used until new robust evidence suggests otherwise.
