Position statements

Diabetes UK has adopted the IDF position statement on bariatric surgical and procedural interventions in the treatment of obese patients with Type 2 diabetes in its entirety.

Diabetes UK recommends that bariatric surgery should be offered to adults with Type 2 diabetes, who have failed to lose weight through diet and lifestyle changes and for whom pharmacological interventions have failed, thus putting them at greater health risks.

The position statement does not address bariatric surgery in children and young people.
