Top up to the target

Get five fruit and veg a day
For a small appetite, often the only way to get to the target of five a day is to think about meals and snacks.
- Start the day with a glass of juice – a quick and easy serving of fruit.
- Whiz up some fruit in a blender to make a tasty smoothie – add some yogurt or milk for a change.
- Disguise vegetables by adding them to pasta sauce and family favourites like curry, stir-fry, shepherd's pie and pizza.
- Involve the kids in preparing sticks of vegetables like carrot, cucumber, peppers, etc, to add to lunchboxes, dip in hummus or stuff into pitta and tortilla wraps.
- Add dried or fresh fruit to their cereal.
- Pop a packet of dried fruit or mini pot of fruit in juice to their lunch box.
- Serve fruit with custard, yogurt or even ice-cream.
- Puree some fruit and use as a sauce over their favourite dessert.
- Don’t underestimate the tastiness of a mashed banana and peanut butter on toast.
