Dr Tom Yates is a Senior Lecturer in Physical Activity, Sedentary Behaviour and Health within the Diabetes Research Unit, University of Leicester. Having completed his PhD in autumn 2008, he has rapidly progressed to become a recognised national and international expert in the role of physical activity and lifestyle in the prevention of type 2 diabetes. His work has helped shape, and ensure the continued forwards progression of, the diabetes prevention agenda both in the UK and internationally. Central to this work has been the development, evaluation and implementation of the Walking Away from Type 2 Diabetes within routine primary care. Dr Yates also holds an extensive portfolio of research grants and collaborations ranging from mechanistic investigation to the large scale implementation and evaluation of lifestyle programmes.
