Inject some energy into 2013
Following on from our celebration of 90 years of insulin in 2012, we launched our 90 campaign, encouraging people to take up the challenge of undertaking a new activity for 90 minutes each week for a month. Today the number of people with diabetes is even greater and we want to start the next 90 years by encouraging everyone to inject some energy into 2013 by taking up the 90 minute Challenge.
Challenge to do 90 minutes of activity each week for one month in 2013.

Please note change of location
Following the success of the first two events in May 2011 and 2012, King’s College Hospital, Guy’s and St. Thomas’ NHS Trusts and Diabetes UK have organised a third patient information day to discuss the understanding and treatment of potential complications with the foot and lower limb.
There will be participation from a wide range of healthcare professionals involved in the treatment of lower limb complications associated with diabetes. Modern up-to-date treatments will be looked at through presentations, open discussions and workshops. We aim to improve patients' knowledge and understanding of these potential complications to educate them in how to avoid or at least mimimise them, and to make sure that they have the confidence to cope with any issues should they arise.

Those with diabetes in Blackmore Vale are invited to attend this event to learn about avoiding serious health complications connected to the condition.
Professional advice on protecting the health of eyes and feet will be the focus of this meeting of the Diabetes UK Blackmore Vale Voluntary Group.
Charlotte Wallis from the Dorset Diabetic Eye Screening Programme will talk about retinopathy and podiatrist Nikki Grenville-Cleave will discuss how people should look after their feet.
Charlotte and Nikki will answer questions from those attending the meeting on Tuesday, June 11.
These issues are vitally important for people with diabetes, as the condition is a leading cause of blindness and lower limb amputation. Over 100 amputations are carried out every week on people with diabetes because of complications connected with their condition. However up to 80 per cent of these are preventable.

This conference will focus on the vascularly compromised/ ischaemic patient. The importance of treating the patient rather than just the foot with the aim of decreasing mortality has been recognised, therefore we are looking at not only emphasizing the control of the ischaemic foot/lower limb, but also to stress the control of the other risk factors for ischaemia with a focus on the mortality of the patient rather than the morbidity of the foot.
