Making a will
A few hints on making a will
Making a will is one of the best ways you can take care of the people and causes that matter most to you. You might be pleasantly surprised how simple and inexpensive it can be.
It’s a good idea to consult a solicitor to make sure your wishes are clearly expressed.
Before you visit your solicitor, you might want to think about:
- Who you would like to benefit – from family and friends to charities you support
- The type of gift you’d like to leave – for instance, a fixed sum or a percentage share
- Who your executors might be – you’ll need two people to take care of your affairs
- What legal terms mean – see our simple explanations.
“Diabetes UK has been a fantastic help to me and I want to do whatever I can to help it. I feel that I’m leaving my money to a very useful cause. When you consider the number of people there are with diabetes and the problems they’re having I don’t think enough money is going into Diabetes UK.”
Tim Savage, who was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at 21, decided to pledge a legacy to Diabetes UK when he and his wife Laura made their will.
