Diabetes UK’s Hypo Research Challenge aims to raise £170,000 to go towards our research programme, which includes vital hypo research amongst other projects.

Hypo research is essential for thousands of people who experience frequent, distressing hypos. It could help many of them have fewer hypos, or to manage their blood glucose so effectively that one day they no longer have hypos at all. Most importantly, it could lift a dark shadow of fear and anxiety permanently from their lives.

Our research programme could help people like 53-year-old Michael who has Type 1 diabetes and for many years struggled with managing his condition. He experienced several serious attacks and at its worst, Michael was having three or four hypos a day. Some hypos were so bad “that I completely lost control and ended up thrashing around in a violent fit, which was terrifying for my family.” Read Michael's story.
