Your change can change the lives of people with diabetes

Last year, many of our members helped us through our Coin Box appeal by saving their small change and raising more than £65,000 to fund our vital work for people with diabetes.

However, we want to beat last year’s target and therefore we need as much support as possible.

Help change a life

Your donation in support of the Diabetes UK Coin Box appeal can help change the life of someone like Shirley and her son David:

"David was just seven years old when he was diagnosed with diabetes. He was very brave about his injections, but I felt afraid and out of my depth.

"I wanted to know much more about diabetes, but didn’t know who to talk to. Fortunately Diabetes UK was there to help. By phoning their Careline, I was able to talk to a counsellor about how the whole family could support David and help him stay healthy. For the first time, I started to feel that we could cope.

"Recently David went on one of the Diabetes UK Care Support Holidays, which aim to help young people become more confident in managing their diabetes. It really brought him out of himself and built up his self confidence. He knows now that he isn’t alone, that there are lots of other young people like him, and that diabetes needn’t stop him achieving his ambitions.

"The work that Diabetes UK do for people of all ages with diabetes is vital to them and their families. That’s why last year I was so pleased to be able to send £14 which I had saved in the coin box. It’s not a huge amount but I know it will help change the life of someone with diabetes for the better."

Make a difference

Every coin will make a difference and can help to provide vital services for people with diabetes. It can also help to fund research that could eventually find a cure for diabetes - freeing David and others like him from this serious condition and the fear of dangerous, long-term health complications.

How can you help?

It's not too late to show your support for Diabetes Week by:

• Calling our Customer Services on 0845 123 2399 to request a coin box and details on how to donate this money.

• Put your coin box somewhere in your home where it is easy to see and reach.

• Use it to save as much spare change as you can.

• Send us your cheque/postal order donation from the money saved in your coin box.

• You can also make a donation today, either online, using the form below, or by calling our Customer Services team.

NB: this appeal is only open to individuals over 18 years of age.  We cannot accept donations made by persons under this age.

There are currently 2.3 million people diagnosed with diabetes in the UK and this number is growing by 100,000 every year, or nearly 2,000 a week. 

Diabetes UK is determined to do all it can to support these individuals and their families.
