How your money helps

How your money helps

We work to improve the lives of people living with diabetes – and we rely on your help to do this. Your generous donations allow us to carry on our vital work, so please make a donation now.

Life-changing Care Events

Being diagnosed with diabetes can be an incredibly daunting experience for a young person, and for their family. With so much to take in, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and isolated.

Our Care Events are a fantastic opportunity to meet others with diabetes – it's often the first time a child will meet someone else with the condition – and to learn and share experiences in a fun, relaxed environment.

As well as exciting activities such as climbing and canoeing, young people get the chance to meet with a healthcare team, and to learn how to live with diabetes. Parents get to meet with others in a similar situation, and attend supportive and informative discussion groups.

Pioneering research

Our research programme is the cornerstone of our work. Each year, we invest millions of pounds into project grants, funding to purchase laboratory equipment, and research-training opportunities – all of which are focused on bettering the lives of people with diabetes, and working towards a future free of the condition.

Careline – someone to talk to

Dealing with diabetes can be challenging, whether you’ve just been diagnosed or are an old hand. Sometimes, all you want to do is talk to someone who understands.

The Diabetes UK Careline is a confidential helpline, staffed by trained counsellors who know all about the condition. So, whether you’re after information or just need to chat, we’re here to help.

Roadshows

There are an estimated 850,000 people in the UK who have Type 2 diabetes, but are unaware of it: that’s almost one in 70 people. The longer it is left before diagnosis, the greater the chance of developing the potentially devastating complications of diabetes.

At our series of Healthy Lifestyle Roadshows we risk assess people up and down the country, and refer those at moderate or high risk to their GP for further tests. We also offer valuable advice on healthy living, and how to reduce the risk of developing diabetes.

None of this much-needed work would be possible without your kind support so, please – make a donation now.
