Collections
A permit must be obtained in order to carry out any collection in a public place. Diabetes UK has a national permit for house-to-house collections during Diabetes Week, which you should use. Guidelines on this collection will be forwarded to all participants.
Street collection permits should be obtained from local town or district councils. These will have conditions attached.
All collections should be carried out using official Diabetes UK envelopes or sealed and numbered Diabetes UK collecting boxes. The Charities Act states that these, and any other materials used to promote a collection, must carry the Diabetes UK Registered Charity Number (215199).
When counting cash, there must be at least two people present, one of whom should be an officer of the branch.
Returns detailing money raised and participants, and any expenses incurred for the collection, should be returned to the Diabetes UK Central Office for house-to-house collections, or to the town/ district council for street collections.
For collections on private property, permission must be obtained from the owner, landlord or licensee as appropriate. They may attach their own conditions to collections. The same rules apply regarding materials and counting cash.
