Dr Hilary Jones and Dee Thresher

Celebrity couple, Dr Hilary Jones and Dee Thresher support Diabetes UK as their families have been affected by diabetes. Hilary’s son has Type 1 diabetes, Dee’s father has Type 2 diabetes and their dog also has diabetes.
As a celebrity personal trainer, Dee knows first hand the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle and how it can contribute towards managing diabetes. A practising doctor, Hilary is keen to promote diabetes and educate people about the symptoms and complications associated with diabetes. Hilary and Dee will be involved in the Bupa Great Run charity partnership in 2012.
“I'm passionate about medical things and I've always believed people should discover and learn as much as they possibly can about themselves and about their conditions," says Dee.
"Diabetes is close to my heart and it is important to spread the message about diabetes and increase awareness about it.”

Lee Latchford-Evans

Steps pop-star, Lee Latchford Evans, has signed up to be part of the Diabetes UK team at this year’s Bupa Great Birmingham Run. He and his fiancée, Kerry-Lucy Taylor, will be joining the Diabetes UK team to take on the half marathon on 21 October.
Lee said: "Kerry-Lucy and I are so pleased to be able to support Diabetes UK, because we know first hand how serious the condition, and its complications, can be. I’m running the Bupa Great Birmingham Run this year for my father and Kerry-Lucy is running for her mum, both of whom have Type 2 diabetes. My dad was completely unaware he had the condition, which was only discovered when he was being treated for a different illness. We want to encourage everyone to sign up to a healthier lifestyle, and what better way than running. We are hoping to raise awareness of diabetes, to help other people just like our parents.
