Great North Run - training plan and tips - week six

Welcome to week six of your training plan

The plan focuses on building your half marathon running specific fitness over 16 weeks so that by the end you are ready for your event. The plan is progressive but you can jump in at a position that matches your current training load if you are already training.

We will be sending out training plans for the next 10 weeks via email, if at any point you do not receive your email please contact us.

Fundraising advice

Sit down with anyone who has been helping to collect sponsor money on your behalf, have they exhausted all the possibilities?

Ask friends and family to get involved with other ways to fundraise such as a cake sale, raffle or pub quiz.  If you need any posters or fundraising materials, please contact us and we can get these sent out to you.

And remember to visit our Challenge site where you can set up your own page for online donations

Diabetes facts and stats

Throughout the weeks we will provide you with some statistics and information about diabetes to help your fundraising message have a greater impact

This week: Currently only 28 per cent of the general public and 47 per cent of people with diabetes realise that diabetes can lead to heart disease. Diabetes is second only to smoking as the leading cause of cardiovascular disease in the UK.

Gift Aid

On the sponsorship forms and on the online donations, your supporters will be asked if they would like to Gift Aid their donation. Please ensure that as many people as possible tick the Gift Aid box plus give their full name and address (postcodes are essential) as it allows us to claim an extra 28p for every pound raised. It doesn’t cost your supporters any extra to Gift Aid their donation.
