Achievement awards
Volunteer Achievement Awards 2008
Time to celebrate
For a fourth consecutive year Diabetes UK will be running its Volunteer Achievement Awards to celebrate and recognise the important work all its volunteers do.
There will be four categories of awards, which are detailed below. The awards will be presented at the Volunteering 2008 conference in Leeds at a short ceremony on the Saturday evening. Any volunteer within Diabetes UK can be nominated for an award. Awards can be awarded to either individuals or groups. Nominations are welcomed from volunteers themselves, healthcare professionals and Diabetes UK staff.
The award categories
Communications
This will be awarded to an individual volunteer or group who has demonstrated excellence in communication. The judges will be looking for excellence in working with the media (getting good coverage in local newspaper or a slot on local radio) or in developing effective promotional materials (eg group newsletter or website) or other innovative and effective ways of raising awareness about diabetes and Diabetes UK. Judges will also be looking for good practice in the use of Diabetes UK branding and logo.
Working with children and young people
This award is looking for excellence and commitment to working with children and young people, whether through a voluntary group or volunteers on our children's holidays or other voluntary activity. Judges will be looking for models of good practice such as child protection guidelines being in place and evidence of novel and innovative events being organised. We would also welcome nominations both of and from children and young people themselves. Judges will be looking for evidence of how young people have been involved with the planning and development of an event or initiative.
The Bryan Walliker fundraising award
This award is in memory of Bryan Walliker, who was the National Fundraising Manager for Northern Ireland.
This award will be awarded to a volunteer or group who has developed an effective and innovative fundraising event or campaign to raise money for Diabetes UK. The judges will not be awarding this award based on the amount of money raised but are looking for evidence of innovation and good ideas for fundraising from individuals or groups.
Work to improve quality of diabetes care and services
This award will be awarded to volunteers who have made strides in improving diabetes care and services in their local area and who have worked to ensure effective implementation of the service framework where they live. The judges will be looking for evidence of effective campaigning or lobbying from Diabetes Campaigners Network members or voluntary groups or effective partnership working with the local NHS through user involvement bodies such as Local Implementation teams or LDSAGs (Local Diabetes Services Advisory Groups).
Please contact the Volunteer Development team on 020 7424 1000 for a nomination form. The closing date for nominations is Monday 28 July 2008.
