Raising awareness
Become a speaker
Join the Diabetes UK speaker scheme
Could you support Diabetes UK by becoming a volunteer speaker and help raise awareness of diabetes and Diabetes UK. By volunteering on the speaker scheme you will be given training and promotional materials to enable you to talk on behalf of Diabetes UK.
Who will I be speaking to?
This is up to you and who in your local area you approach. It could be community groups such as council committees, Rotary clubs, or the Women’s Institute. The presentation material is not designed to be used for children.
When will these talks take place?
When a talk takes place will vary, it could be during the day or the evening.
What training will I be given on the speaker scheme?
You will need to attend a training day to learn about diabetes and Diabetes UK. We will:
- train you in presentation skills
- give you ideas of whom to approach in your local area
- provide you with all the materials you need to give talks.
There is no medical training and you will not be qualified to give medical advice about diabetes.
What will I get out of volunteering on the speaker scheme?
You will be given tips on presenting and have the opportunity to practise this skill with a wide range of audiences. You will also have the satisfaction of knowing that you are helping to raise awareness of the condition and the work of Diabetes UK.
How will Diabetes UK benefit?
By volunteering on the speaker scheme it will help us to let more people know about diabetes as a condition and the work of Diabetes UK. This will help us to gain further support for our work
