Service planning

The planning of local diabetes services requires the cooperation of many different professionals and the close involvement of people with diabetes. Since the publication of the national diabetes frameworks, a new emphasis has been placed upon user involvement in all aspects of diabetes service planning.

The challenge for every local diabetes service is to deliver the best possible service for local people with the resources available. As well as the financial resources of local health and social care organisations, these resources include the skills and commitment of local health and social professionals, the insight and understanding of people with diabetes and the community relations of voluntary and community organisations.

Local planning mechanisms offer people with diabetes opportunities to get involved in improving the quality of local diabetes treatment and care. The following pages describe these opportunities.
