Campaigning
On World Diabetes Day we launched our newest campaign, as well as spreading awareness and influencing government through speeches, receptions, and parliamentary visits and bulletins throughout the UK and in Europe.
Here are some key facts about diabetes worldwide.
- There are over 25 million people with diabetes within the 25 European Union (EU) member states alone.
- In the EU, the average prevalence rate is estimated to be 7.5 per cent of the total population aged 20 and above.
- Based on population screening programmes, up to 50 per cent of all people with diabetes are undiagnosed.
- Around 50 per cent of people with Type 2 diabetes have already developed at least one complication by the time of diagnosis.
- About 80 per cent of all people living with diabetes die of cardiovascular disease.
