What is payroll giving?
Payroll giving is an easy way for you to regularly donate to charities from your gross salary, so you end up giving more for less.
Give more for less
Very simply, your donation is deducted from your wages before the tax is taken and it is the remaining amount that is taxed.
For example, donating £5 will actually cost you £4 if you pay tax at 20 per cent. This same £5 will cost you £3, if you are a higher tax rate payer of 40 per cent, or £2.50 if you are in the highest tax bracket of 50 per cent. The same principle works for whatever amount you choose to give.

Benefits
Payroll giving is not only beneficial to Diabetes UK, but also to you:
- As payroll giving is tax efficient, you pay less tax overall and you can give more for less.
- It's easy to join and stress-free.
- One form enables you to support several charities and all administration is handled by your employer.
- You can also open a charity account through payroll giving which allows you to support charities ad hoc, so for example if your friend is running a marathon for Diabetes UK, you would be able to sponsor them using your charity account.
- You can choose to stay anonymous if you prefer to donate at a distance, but remain committed to your charity.
- You will be helping Diabetes UK provide effective support to children and adults with diabetes or are at risk of developing the condition.
Great – how do I sign up?
You can either sign up to payroll giving online, or download our form (PDF, 1MB) and post it back to us. Alternatively, you can approach your HR or payroll department directly for the necessary paperwork and they will do the rest.
If your company doesn't offer a payroll giving scheme, please contact Mike Hilder on 0207 424 1891, or see payroll giving for employers.
