Hospital admission for residents of care homes

People with diabetes do not get sick or ill more often than people who do not have diabetes, but they are more likely to be admitted to hospital. This is because the diabetes has an additional effect on the illness, and the illness can affect the diabetes.

There are some measures that can be taken to try and prevent admission, but it is important to seek advice.

This section looks at how to avoid hospital admission, when admission happens and preparation for discharge.

Diabetes UK thanks Nicky Middleton for her help in preparing this section.
