Your main goals
Check your blood glucose fasting and one hour after meals (and before bedtime if treated with insulin).
Follow diet and exercise guidelines, stop smoking and reduce or stop drinking alcohol.
Contact your dietitian, diabetes specialist nurse, midwife or doctor if you have particular probelms with nausea and vomiting (especially if you are taking insulin).
Continue taking folic acid.
If you have Type 1 diabetes, know how to test your blood or urine for ketones in case of hyperglycaemia.
Make sure you have a glucagon kit and that someone in the household or nearby knows how to use it.
Attend all antenatel clinic appointments and phone your clinic or GP any time you have a question or concern.
