Friends will always be there

Georgia

School, I know what you’re thinking. Eww, school’s hard at the best of times. Let alone with diabetes. But you know what... I like being at school. Yeah the lessons are hard sometimes, but heck; no diabetes is going to stop me.

I’m 13 years old, year nine and fast tracked - and yes that means GCSEs in a few months, what 'fun'. But that’s not the reason I like school. It's my friends there, namely. Ruggy (Rob) Hammy (Matt) and Adam. These three boys are my closest friends and support me through everything. They are aware of my diabetes and are amazing at helping me through it, and I know Ruggy would carry me back from one of our long runs if I told him I was hypo :P.

So for all of you out there who are finding school with diabetes hard, just remember, your friends will always be there to support you.

This is a picture from back in November of me and a few of my closest friends, who I know that I can count on for anything. Even though the girl on the far left moved to Scotland a good few years back we are still all extra close.

These kids have helped me through my diabetes and don’t treat me any different. Heck, on that day we all shared a huge chocolate ice cream sundae (shhh).

I think this picture really shows how I feel around them, with the caption “I may be diabetic, but I’m not the odd one out”.
