How to stop the flu

getting you

Did you know that if you have diabetes you're entitled to a free flu jab?

Why do I need a flu jab?

We're not talking about a heavy cold here, which people often call flu. We're talking about real flu that knocks you out for a good couple of weeks. This can not only really upset your diabetes control and cause your blood glucose levels to fluctuate wildly, but can also cause things like pneumonia. That's why it's so important to get vaccinated against it.

How do I get vaccinated?

You'll normally get an invitation from your GP to come to the surgery for the vaccine, but if you don't, give them a call yourself or get your parents too.

Remember though - the flu vaccine isn't going to stop you getting a cold over the winter. It's designed to protect you against the most common strain of flu around this winter.
