Different holiday destinations need different vaccination cover. These can include Hepatitis A or B, Typhoid, and Yellow fever as well as boosters of the common childhood vaccinations of Tetanus, Polio or Diphtheria. Certain destinations will require you to take tablets for protection against malaria.
Arranging to be vaccinated
You can arrange for this at either a travel centre or your GP surgery.
Costs
Expect to pay for all vaccinations at a travel centre but some are free of charge at your surgery.
Timing
Vaccinations should have been given by two weeks prior to travelling, so you should start thinking about making your appointment about a month before you are due to travel.
Effect on diabetes control
Remember that your blood glucose control may be disrupted as your body makes antibodies to the disease you have been vaccinated against.
