Your local care 2005
For the third year running, Diabetes UK has commissioned the independent research organisation Dr Foster to gather information on the progress being made against the National Service Framework for diabetes in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
This survey is all about how diabetes healthcare is being delivered in your local area and is an indicator as to whether you are receiving the diabetes care you are entitled to.
To find out how well your local Primary Care Organisation (your healthcare provider) is doing, and to make comparisons with neighbouring providers and national averages simply search on the Your local care 2005 site, you can access this by clicking on the link on the right hand side of the [page. The results are provided by the PCOs themselves and it will be up to you to judge if you are receiving the services as indicated in the survey.
This information provides a snapshot in time of how services are being organised and the structures and facilities in place to deliver on national standards. It does not make any judgements on the quality of the care provided. Many primary care and commissioning organisations will have plans to improve services over the next few years, so if something does not currently exist it may be included in future plans.
To find out about your current and future local healthcare plans contact your PCO and ask for a copy of their Healthcare Local Delivery Plan.
If you are not satisfied with your diabetes healthcare and would like to become more involved in helping to improve diabetes services in your area join the Diabetes Campaigners Network or contact your local User Involvement representative.
71 per cent of PCTs completed the survey and if your PCT is one of the 29 per cent that did not, why not contact them yourself to find out how diabetes care is being delivered in your area?
