Lloydspharmacy strides ahead for diabetes research

More than £2,500 was raised for Diabetes UK by staff at Lloydspharmacy - the chain of chemists - who took part in their own Walk in the Park event in July.

The five-mile walk – which was followed by a barbecue – was Lloydspharmacy's third fundraising walk organised for Diabetes UK in as many years.

The events company Eventurous also made a donation towards the event.

Douglas Smallwood, Chief Executive at Diabetes UK said: "We're delighted to hear the staff at Lloydspharmacy have raised over £2500 for Diabetes UK by organising their own Walk in the Park.

"Generous donations such as these help us to fund vital research into the causes and treatment of diabetes, as well providing information and support to the 2.2 million people diagnosed with diabetes in the UK.

Walking is also a great way to get active and maintain a healthy weight, essential for the good management of Type 2 diabetes.

A big thank you goes out to all at Lloydspharmacy!"

Lloydspharmacy has a long standing relationship with Diabetes UK, having worked with them since 2003 ahead of the launch of their free diabetes screening service.

This is now offered in around 1,520 Lloydspharmacy branches around the country and to date over 1,075,110 people have been screened.

Of those, over 50,000 have been referred to their GP for further investigation.
