How does diabetes affect your relationship?

We have plans to launch a brand new sex and diabetes section designed to offer help and advice on sexual problems relating to diabetes - in particular, erectile dysfunction and female sexual dysfunction.

Included in this new section will be an area on relationships which we are hoping to expand.

What are we asking for?

Diabetes can have a huge emotional impact, especially around diagnosis, starting insulin or due to related complications.

It could be that the physical complications of diabetes or taking certain medication has had an influence on your relationship in some way.

Many people feel that their diabetes has taken over their lives. Certain feelings can start to emerge, from low self esteem and shame to feelings of isolation. This can, in turn, have an effect on how you relate to family, friends and also a relationship.

If you have any stories on how diabetes affects any aspect of your relationship either in a positive or challenging way, we would love to hear your experiences, plus any advice you have to offer.

What will we do with your experiences?

We would like to include some of the experiences we receive in our new sex and diabetes section. The section is designed to offer advice and information and also to help or inspire others in similar situations.

The media may also be interested in using your story. Your personal details will be treated as highly confidential and will not be passed on without your permission.

We would love to hear from both men and women about the impact of diabetes on their relationship. We would also be very interested in hearing from partners too, as we will have a section dedicated to supporting your partner.

All stories can remain anonymous if preferred.

How do I submit my story?
