My poem about diabetes

It’s a pain being diabetic; I hate it but have to live with it
Type 2 for me, what is one to do but smile and get on with it
Always in my mind, makes life so difficult at times, a bit of a bind
But as the Doc say’s “must be careful don’t want to go blind”.
*******
Taking my bloods, making sure my sugar levels are ok
Pop those pills, inject the right dose, it gets right up my nose
Good days, bad days either way the sugar levels have their say
When I’m down it gets stuck in my mind, why did this come my way.
*******
My eyes light up when I see that cream cake, but I must not touch
Look chocolate biscuits, delicious deserts, if I have one will it hurt?
But I must be stronger, try not to do anything so sweetly wrong
I can be good with my diet but you would not want to try it.
*******
I think of being a diabetic as if it’s like being in a special club
I greet other members with a hug and wish them good luck
Many people seem to have it, those that just don’t understand it
And we are not being funny when we say “we can’t have that”.
*******
I am a diabetic and have got use to it, a chronic disease you see
But of all diseases in this world there are this will do for me
I know I am lucky with so many others far less fortunate than thee
So I get on with it and make sure I live my life to the best it can be.
