Children's holidays
A Diabetes UK holiday is packed with fun activities and adventure. It also offers a unique opportunity to be among people who understand. For many, it is the first step to managing their own diabetes.
Developing a positive attitude and establishing self-confidence in the management of diabetes is a key objective of the holidays.
Although Diabetes UK caters for a large age range, children are put into groups with people of a similar age. Younger children are not with teenagers and each have a specific programme catered for their age group.
We check all our venues and ensure that, where appropriate, each centre is accredited by the nationally recognised authority (AALA) and are also approved by Diabetes UK. All holiday sites have qualified staff and instructors who are very aware of the needs of children/teenagers with diabetes. Meals are planned to meet the variety of needs of everyone and the programme schedule is planned to develop your child’s understanding of their diabetes whilst having fun.
Doctors, nurses and dietitians provide daily supervision of your child’s diabetes management. Many of the staff have diabetes themselves and attended Diabetes UK events during their own childhood. Through example, they serve as role models for a healthy and happy life.
Children's holidays take place across the UK during the summer - see below for dates and locations. If you have any queries, please call 020 7424 1000 and ask for the Care Events team.
