With recent changes in the NHS, the cost of staying healthy can be high. The Diabetes UK health cash plan can help you manage the cost of dental check-ups and treatment; eye-test, new glasses and contact lenses; professional therapy treatments such as physiotherapy, osteopathy and chiropody; health consultations, stays in hospital and much more.

How to benefit from the health cash plan

The health cash plan has a very simple joining and claiming process – no medical is required and premiums will not increase with age or claims history.

For example: If you had a level two personal policy, you could claim up to £100 every benefit year, towards the cost of your dental treatment:

How to claim

Attend your appointment and pay your bill. Complete a claim form and send it with the original receipt to BHSF and we will do the rest. At a NHS dentist, if you had a check-up and filling this would cost you £45.60. You could claim the full £45.60* out of your £100 entitlement, leaving you with a further £54.40 to claim throughout the remainder of the benefit year.

For hospital in-patient benefit, these are paid per night regardless of whether you were in a NHS or private hospital. You can choose to spend the money you receive however you want. It will be paid directly to you by credit transfer into your bank account or alternatively by cheque sent to your home address, normally within 3 to 5 working days.

Also included in your cover is access to a 24 hour, 365 days a year confidential telephone helpline, offering information on legal and financial advice, and a counselling services on issues such as stress, family relationships, substance abuse and debt.

The health cash plan

• Anyone between the age of 17 and 64 inclusive, at the time of application can apply.
• You can claim 13 weeks from the start date shown on your policy with the exception of maternity payment where there is a 10 month qualifying period.
• If you have an existing medical condition you will not be able to make hospital in-patient or diagnostic health consultation claims which are connected with that condition for a period of two years.
• Individual and family policies are available.
• Premiums are paid by monthly direct debit.
• The policy will be automatically terminated when an insured person reaches age 75.
