Diabetes UK Northern Ireland works with local politicians, MLAs and the Assembly structures to campaign for better services for people with diabetes.
Northern Ireland Assembly
The Northern Ireland Assembly is the devolved government for Northern Ireland and is responsible for most of the day-to-day issues affecting the people of Northern Ireland, including health.
Diabetes UK Northern Ireland works with Ministers, MLAs and Civil Servants to ensure they are aware of issues relating to diabetes and that these issues are addressed.
All Party Assembly Group on Diabetes
Earlier this year Diabetes UK Northern Ireland formally established an All Party Assembly Group on Diabetes.
This group pulls together interested MLAs so that we can keep them abreast of developments in the field if diabetes care. The Group members have pledged to support Diabetes UK in obtaining better services for those with diabetes.
The priority for the year ahead is the introduction of a Diabetes Service Framework. This would bring us in line with other areas of the UK, put an end to the postcode lottery of care which exists and introduce targets and evaluation of diabetes services.
Diabetes Campaigners Network
Please help us represent the views of those living with diabetes - join our Diabetes Campaigners Network. It really helps us get our message across if we have support from people who are actually living with the condition and experiencing difficulties first hand.
By joining the Diabetes Campaigners Network you can get involved to increase the voice of those with diabetes, by writing letters or sending emails to your local politicians.
