IKEA Belfast are delighted to be supporting Diabetes UK as our store charity for 2013. "Our store feel very strongly about this charity as we feel that we are all affected in some way by Diabetes whether through a friend or relative. It is a real health issue especially in Northern Ireland and we will be happy to work alongside Diabetes to increase awareness of the symptons of Diabetes especially in kids as well as raise awareness of the charity and hopefully raise £20,000 or more during 2013. We will have a very fun year with lots of activities for our co-workers and customers to get involved in to raise money for Diabetes and hopefully make a big difference to those dealing with diabetes and get more people to get themselves risk assessed".
Volunteers will be required to cover a 2 hour slot on collection days, timings for the days are 12 - 2.30pm or 2.30 - 5pm, Sundays only 1 - 3pm or 3 - 6pm.

Tesco has announced a major new charity partnership with Diabetes UK to help create a healthier future for people in Northern Ireland and across the UK affected by diabetes or at risk of developing it.
The partnership follows the recent announcement that the number of people living with diabetes in Northern Ireland has reached 75,837- a rise of 33% in the last 5 years compared to just 25% in England, 20% in Wales and 18% in Scotland. It also comes as the total number of people diagnosed with diabetes in the UK has reached three million for the first time.
The partnership will see Tesco, its customers, staff and suppliers aim to raise £10 million across the UK, the biggest donation ever pledged to the charity.
Tesco Collection Weekend
We will be holding collections in Tesco stores across Northern Ireland on 4–6 October 2013.
We need your support to raise thousands of pounds to help all those who are affected by and at risk of diabetes in the UK.
The money will be invested in:
- Life-changing support for a million people with diabetes, so they feel less scared and isolated by their condition
- Preventing thousands of future cases of Type 2 diabetes, meaning that fewer families are affected by the devastating effects of this condition
- Research into a vaccine that could stop forever the development of Type 1 diabetes in children
We would love you to join us! If you are interested in helping out during the National Collection Weekend please register your interest now by clicking here.
We will be in touch by email with more information and the next steps over the coming weeks.
