Meet the team
The North West Diabetes UK team has grown recently and there are now three full-time staff, two part-time and three volunteers. Find out about us all by reading below:
Helen Pattie Julie Byron Lesley Challoner

Julie and Helen job-share as Regional Manager, managing a small but dynamic team. Helen works Mon – Wed am, and Julie works Wed pm – Fri, with some flexibility. Their key role is to influence standards of healthcare for people with diabetes and support the volunteers, voluntary groups and Diabetes Campaigners Network and its members. Organising training and networking opportunities, as well as conferences and events for people with diabetes and healthcare professionals, are also important parts of Helen and Julie’s role.
Lesley is our Regional Support Officer and has been with Diabetes UK for eight years. She is our fountain of knowledge and is responsible for managing the North West office. Lesley also organises and manages the care events and conferences (both for healthcare professionals and people with diabetes) and many awareness events.
Tara Cooney and Steph Lawless

There have been a few changes within the North West Fundraising team. Steph Lawless is now our Regional Fundraising Manager and we have a new member of staff, Tara Cooney, who is our Fundraising Administrator. We are delighted that Tara has joined the team!
Our Fundraising Team is extremely busy this year, with more events taking place than ever before. In 2008 there are 8 Walks in the Park, numerous regional runs including the main BUPA Great Manchester Run, Swimming with Sharks, Abseiling, a Golf Day and many other exciting events which altogether make for a busy calendar which hopefully includes an event for everyone.
Steph and Tara also assist Voluntary Groups in their fundraising activities. Additionally, they help individual fundraisers who attend or organise their own events, work alongside local companies and trusts, clubs and associations, schools and universities and many other supporters who raise a great deal of money for Diabetes UK.
Sue Richardson, Lindy Miller and Lynne Day

Sue and Lindy are our Volunteer Administration Assistants and work to provide general administrative back up and assistance to the Regional Support Officer and other regional office staff. They also provide support in response to telephone enquiries, letters, email enquiries, and personal callers to the office.
Lynne is our Family Event Project Volunteer. She is heavily involved in the organisation and management of specific projects such as the Family Event we are holding in May. She too is an invaluable addition to the North West team.
