Diabetes UK Northern & Yorkshire
Adjusting to the knowledge that you or a member of your family has diabetes takes time and it is often helpful to meet other people who live with diabetes and have been through a similar situation. They can offer understanding, help and support at an important time. A good way of finding this help is to join a local support group - one of our Diabetes UK voluntary groups.
Local Voluntary Group Cares for a Cuppa
Rose's masterpiece
When the new Diabetes UK support group for Goole decided to launch on the same day as Care for a Cuppa, to piggy back on our publicity for the campaign, I thought a textile banner based on the advertising would be a colourful thing to ensure coverage in the local press. After failing to interest any local embroidery or craft groups in making one, I set to myself. It kept me busy while my partner cried on the sofa watching Boro moving inexorably towards relegation.
As I began to stitch the teapot and piece together the background, it occurred to me that it would be a good idea to leave the centre blank, so that the banner could be used at any event. I attached velcro strips so that appropriate wording could be printed out, laminated and easily attached. So far, it's appeared at the Harrogate Antique & Fine Art Fair, and after Goole will be on display here in the office at our own Care for a Cuppa event on 20 May. Any group wishing to borrow it is welcome to call Rose on 01325 488606.
