Think of what you might miss campaign

Diabetes UK Scotland and RNIB Scotland have combined forces to mount a Scotland wide awareness campaign, which aims to ensure that everyone with diabetes aged 12 and above attends for regular screening for diabetic retinopathy.

The campaign was launched in Diabetes Week by Cabinet Secretary for Health, Nicola Sturgeon and is now being rolled out across Scotland in a series of road shows being organised in conjunction with local healthcare providers. The road shows aim to work with local clinical networks, retinopathy screening providers, pharmacists and optometrists as well as media and politicians to promote the importance of eye screening at a local level. Dates and venues for road shows can be found here.

The campaign, which is being funded by the Scottish Executive through the Scottish Diabetes Group, has three main aims:

  • Raising awareness and understanding of the link between diabetes and sight loss
  • Raising awareness of the availability of retinopathy screening in Scotland
  • Encouraging people with diabetes to attend for regular eye screening.

This campaign is the first of its kind in the UK and is another opportunity for Scotland to lead the way in its work for people with diabetes.
