Diabetes in Scotland
The Scottish Diabetes Framework has been updated in a new three-year Action Plan, which sets out nine aims to be achieved by 2009:
- Improve the quality of care and outcomes for all people with diabetes and reduce inequalities.
- Ensure that all people with diabetes have access to effective retinopathy screening.
- Support self care through information and education.
- Strengthen and develop Diabetes Managed Clinical Networks.
- Improve patient data.
- Improve education of healthcare professionals.
- Increase diabetes research in Scotland.
- Promote healthier lifestyles for people with diabetes and the population as a whole.
- Improve monitoring and communication of diabetes services.
Diabetes UK Scotland has welcomed the plan and, in particular, its promise of fulfilling nine key promises, including better psychological support and a greater focus on education for people with diabetes.
