Peer Support
Living with diabetes can be difficult – and sometimes you need support from someone who knows exactly what you’re going through.
Our Peer Support network in Scotland is now recruiting to deliver Peer Support projects in East Ayrshire, Fife and soon to come Glasgow. Peer support connects people living with diabetes, and offers to share information, experience and support.
Each of the projects will be slightly different in each area (details below) and to deliver these projects we need teams of volunteers who have lots of experience of managing and living with diabetes.
East Ayrshire
A peer support group will meet monthly in Cumnock, East Ayrshire. The group will be facilitated by trained volunteers. All volunteers will provide emotional support by sharing their own experiences of the illness and sign-posting to other services or organisations who can provide additional support. This group is for any adult who has had a recent diagnosis of diabetes or who is having problems managing their condition.
Fife
Trained volunteers will be matched with adults who have recently received a diagnosis of diabetes or who are struggling to manage their condition. Volunteers will provide emotional support by sharing their own experiences of the illness and sign-posting to other services or organisations who can provide additional support.
GlasgowGreater Glasgow and Clyde
The service is opened to adults attending Stobhill Hospital. Trained volunteers will be matched with adults who have recently received a diagnosis of diabetes or who are struggling to manage their condition. Volunteers will provide emotional support by sharing their own experiences of the illness and sign-posting to other services or organisations who can provide additional support.
In addition, a support group will be set up at Stobhill which will be open to anyone living with diabetes based in North Glasgow or Strathkelvin.
