South East Fundraising Champions

Diabetes UK South East have a fabulous team of supporters of all ages, who give a great deal of time and go out in all kinds of weather raising vital funds in the region.  A huge thank you to our voluntary groups, individual fundraisers, clubs and associations.  By supporting Diabetes UK  you make a real difference to the lives of people living with diabetes, and contribute to our vision of a world without diabetes.

Some notable contributions have been made by:

Chris Bowling completed the London to Paris Bike ride in July 2008

'It went very well, it was without a doubt the hardest thing I have ever done… so many hills and long days on the bike - but somehow you find the will to finish and riding into the centre of Paris with the crowds cheering made it all worth it!'  Well done, Chris.

Open Garden A Winner

Sally Williams opened her beautiful garden in Bourne End Bucks and raised a wonderful £3,377.

Tribute Fund for David Ward

Family and friends of popular East Preston Footballer, David Ward, marked the anniversary of his death by presenting a cheque for £5,000 to Diabetes UK. Brothers Graham and Jamie organised a fundraising football tournament in Dave's memory, after he died in a cottage fire on the Isle of Wight.  Both Dave's girlfriend, Erica and his father, Charlie, have Type 1 diabetes.

Arctic Kites

Congratulations and thanks to Chris Sunderland and Rachel Owen who have completed their self sufficient crossing of the Greenland Icecap.

Using a combination of skis and kites, Rachel and Chris braved severe storm conditions on their 640km expedition, as well as having an Australian companion air lifted from the ice as a medical emergency.  Rachel and Chris are on course to raise over £3,000.

Corporate sponsors

Companies are often keen to support employees in their charity fundraising - why not ask your employers if they will match fund your fundraising? Sometimes companies make donations to charities nominated by their employees - you don't even have to do anything - just ask!
