Supporting your child to inject

  • Don’t pressurise your child into doing their injection before they’re ready.
  • Don’t insist on doing it yourself if they want to take on the responsibility.
  • Talk to your paediatric diabetes team for advice.
  •  Remember that even when your child is competent in doing the injection, they may not want the responsibility all the time. Be prepared to do the injections yourself if and when they want you to.
  •  Don’t assume that your child will always do the injection as perfectly as you have taught them. Keep an eye on their injection technique.
