Insulin Q&As

How do we know what’s the best regimen?

You, your child (if appropriate) and your child’s paediatric diabetes team will decide between you which is the best insulin or combination of insulin for your child. As time goes on, the insulin your child takes or the time that they take it may change, depending on how well their diabetes is managed and how their lifestyle changes. So it’s important to record their blood glucose levels and let your team know of any changes that might affect their diabetes management.

Does insulin go off?

Yes. Clear insulin goes cloudy, and cloudy insulin goes a bit lumpy and sticks to the side of the container. If you’re not sure, don’t use it, and always check the expiry date.
