Storing insulin

  • InsulinStore any insulin not in use in the fridge, between 2–8°C.
  • Keep insulin that is in use at room temperature (under 25°C) as this will make it more comfortable to inject.
  • Don’t let insulin get too hot – don’t place it near a radiator, in direct sunlight or on top of electrical equipment like the TV or computer.
  • Don’t let insulin freeze – this will prevent it from working properly.
  • Check for the expiry date and don’t use if it has expired.
  • Keep spare vials or cartridges of insulin in their boxes in the fridge so you always have expiry date details.
  • If you need to transport insulin (eg when travelling) keep it cool in a Frio bag or flask.
