Why do hypos happen?

There’s no hard and fast rule why they happen, but some things can mean it’s more likely that your child has a hypo:

  • too much insulin
  • a delayed or missed meal or snack
  • not enough carbohydrate food
  • unplanned physical activity
  • if they are old enough, drinking large quantities of alcohol or alcohol without food
  • and sometimes there just is no obvious cause.
