Regular physical activity should be part of your child’s routine and having a plan for it will help you feel more confident. Activity may affect blood glucose levels both during and after exercise. Regular blood glucose checking will help you to understand how activity affects your child’s blood glucose levels. Be aware of hypos – but remember that activity may also cause blood glucose levels to rise, or stay the same.
Activity may cause your child’s blood glucose levels to drop if:
- there is too much insulin working in their body
- the activity lasts longer than hour
- the activity is very strenuous.
Activity may cause your child’s blood glucose levels to rise if:
- they don’t have enough insulin circulating in their body.
