Diabetes won’t stand in your child’s way of doing their favourite sport or being successful in it. Five-times Olympic rowing medallist Sir Steve Redgrave and former Spurs Captain Gary Mabbutt are just two people with diabetes who prove this point.
People with diabetes can (and do) take part in most sports and activities.
There are, however, some sports governing bodies that restrict people with diabetes from taking part in some sports. Luckily, these are very few. Certain sports such as scuba diving may have strict guidelines, but this is for your child’s safety as much as anything else.
Contact the relevant sporting body or a local sports group for more information.
