Sexual dysfunction

Around 50 per cent of men with diabetes and 25 per cent of women with diabetes will experience some kind of sexual problems or loss of sexual desire as a result of their condition. However, keeping your blood glucose level to recommended levels will really help to prevent this happening in later life.

The most common sexual problems experienced are erectile problems (in men) and female sexual problems (in women), known as female sexual dysfunction. Erectile dysfunction is also referred to as ED or impotence and is the medical term for being unable to get and/or keep an erection for intercourse.

Female sexual dysfunction can cause dyspareunia (pain with intercourse), and a loss of desire, arousal and orgasm.
