Diabetes UK and external conferences
Diabetes UK Scotland, the Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network (SIGN), the Scottish Government and the Scottish Diabetes Industry Group are jointly hosting Diabetes 2010 and beyond: Knowledge into Practice at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh. A free scientific symposium will also be held on the afternoon of Monday 22nd March.

Who should attend?
The conference will be of interest to medical practitioners, nutritionists, dietitians, clinical researchers, scientists and others working in, or with special interests in the field of bariatric surgery, related areas of medicine and weight loss management.
Conference aims
Bariatric Surgery is undergoing rapid expansion in the UK. It is acknowledged that there are considerable problems with the quality of the evidence base which is leading to wide variations in practice. Many controversies in this field remain unresolved. The aim of this conference is to critically discuss and appraise the current state of development of the scientific evidence base in the field of Bariatric Surgery in the UK.

The structure of healthcare delivery in Wales is undergoing dramatic change. The first ever Welsh conference of the Primary Care Diabetes Society (PCDS) will examine diabetes care from a Welsh perspective and within the context of this changing landscape.
Organised by the PCDS – the only association solely committed to the needs of primary care diabetes – this event will use state-of-the-art lectures and clinical updates to provide practical guidance to healthcare professionals for confronting present and future therapeutic and political issues that impact directly on everyday practice in Wales. In addition, it will present a vision for Welsh diabetes care in the future.
