Aims

By completing this module, the user will be able to:

  1. Become aware of the geographical and linguistic differences within the South Asian population
  2. Become aware of the health issues that face this community
  3. Understand the importance of faith in the south Asian community and how faith can influence dietary choices and lifestyles
  4. Understand the importance of health beliefs and identify ways to address these appropriately
  5. Explain the social aspects that can influence diet and lifestyle including the role of the family and social customs
  6. Be able to identify key areas for dietary change in the south Asian diet including cooking techniques and portion sizes
  7. Advise south Asian clients with confidence and cultural sensitivity, on healthy eating practices
