Aims
Studying this interactive module will enable you to understand the link between metabolic syndrome, diabetes and cardiovascular disease (CVD) and critically evaluate your role in preventing and treating these conditions. You will be able to confidently assess and manage your patients with or at risk of diabetes effectively utilising evidence to underpin your decisions making skills.
This module covers the following areas:
- Epidemiology and pathophysiology of metabolic syndrome and diabetes
- Differences between Type 1 and Type 11 diabetes
- Assessment and Diagnosis of pre-diabetes and diabetes including CVD Risk
- Complications of diabetes and metabolic syndrome
- Pharmacological and non-pharmacological strategies
- Care planning with supported self-management skills
- National and local policy guidelines in relation to evidence based care
- Organisation of care – working with the multidisciplinary diabetes team

Entry criteria
Healthcare professionals who regularly encounter the challenges of managing patients diagnosed with pre-diabetes and those with established disease.
Places available
Locally delivered training available for groups of 15 or more. Warwick courses as available.
How achievement is assessed
Assessment method includes a 2,000 word case scenario and a 3,000 word case study.
