Regional involvement
Diabetes UK regional offices are involved in various activities for both healthcare professionals directly and for people with diabetes that rely on the valued support of healthcare professional volunteers.
For example, support might include helping at diabetes awareness days and fundraising events. There are also opportunities to give talks at Living with Diabetes days, Diabetes UK group meetings or other community groups.
You can get involved in running workshops at local or regional healthcare professional training events and much more.
In addition, you are welcome to participate in the variety of fundraising and sponsorship activities.
If you would like to get involved locally, please contact your regional office who will be very pleased to hear from you.
Diabetes UK Care Events
Our care events are a fantastic way for children and young people with diabetes, and their families, to get together in a relaxed environment and learn more about the condition.
If you are a healthcare professional or in training, these events offer an invaluable, all expenses paid opportunity to gain experience of diabetes outside a clinical setting.
Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you can meet key requirements in your professional development and gain greater insight into the issues facing children, young people and families with diabetes in their day-to-day lives.
One of the most unique aspects of volunteering on a Care Event is managing a child’s diabetes on a day-to-day basis. You will see first hand how exercise affects blood glucose levels or how difficult it can be to treat a night time hypo.
Many of our volunteers tell us that this insight helps them relate to the problems faced by patients and their parents and greatly improves their understanding of diabetes management in a way which complements their clinical skills.
