East Lancashire Hospitals Trust (ELHT) are in the process of implementing a new model for the delivery of their diabetes services, integrating acute specialist services with community services on a locality basis. The model is already established in the Hyndburn locality, and ELHT are delivering an improvement programme to rollout the model to the remaining four locality areas.

Diabetes UK are working with ELHT to host engagement events within each locality to allow people with diabetes to influence at an early stage the way that the model will be configured, to allow for local needs. Work is beginning in Ribble Valley before taking in Rossendale, Pendle and Burnley. Following this Diabetes UK will assist ELHT to establish a user reference group for the area, with representatives from each of the localities.
